McLaren Automotive is a year old and is celebrating selling over 1,000 McLaren MP4-12Cs in the first twelve months. It’s actually a bit more than three years since Ron Dennis announced the formation of McLaren Automotive, which had a live launch on Cars UK on 18th March 2010. But McLaren don’t seem to acknowledge that date as the start of McLaren Automotive but instead prefer the date the first MP4-12C was sold – exactly one year ago today on June 21st 2011.
Pagani Zonda R – Only for the track
With the Zonda about to bite the dust for an all new model in 2010/2011, Zonda has officially revealed the Zonda’s swansong – the track-only Zonda R. Looking like a super-version of the Zonda F (although with only 10% of the same components) the 7.3 litre AMG engined track car produces a huge 750 bhp, with a 0-60 of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 250mph. A complete new carbon fibre monocoque, carbon fibre intakes, a 6-speed sequential ‘box and an F1-style exhaust make this the meanest Zonda to hit the road (or the track, in this case).
Volkswagen has just issued these first photos of the new 2010 Polo GTI. It uses the 1.4-litre TSI engine with turbo- and supercharging to liberate a stocky 178bhp – enough to make the Polo GTI into a proper little pocket rocket.The first hot Polo was the supercharged G40 of 1986, but that developed a relatively weedy 112bhp. The new 2010-spec Volkswagen Polo GTI is powerful enough to hit 62mph in 6.9sec and reach a 142mph V-max.
